Great Stories Club for Teens
July 2, 2019 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Teens who join the “Great Stories Club – Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation” book club this summer can receive volunteer credit! We will read the following books this summer: Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates, The Shadow Hero by Gene Luen Yang and Sonny Liew, Dreaming in Indian edited by Lisa Charleyboy and Mary Beth Leatherdale, and Always Running, La Vida Loca: Gang Days in L.A. by Luis J. Rodriguez. Students will also participate in four artistic skill-building sessions with ReThink Theatrical around topics of race and identity (July 23, August 6, August 20, and September 17). There will be a closing ceremony & racial healing circle on September 20 at 7 p.m.
This program is for those in grades 9-12 and meets Tuesdays at 2 p.m. from July 2 to September 17. (Please note that the start time may change for September meetings.)
The Great Stories Club is generously funded by a grant from the American Library Association and the WW Kellogg Foundation.
