Based on the Biblical Book of the Apocrypha, this is a modern retelling of the story of Susannah and the Elders. Set in Appalachia in the early half of the 20th century, Susannah is unjustly accused of immoral behavior and shunned by her Fundamentalist community. With its haunting melodies and atmospheric orchestration, Susannah has taken its rightful place as the quintessential American opera.
