The National Association of Women Artists Collection at Rutgers: Acquisitions 2003-2007
Voorhees Special Exhibition Galleries
Daily, Jan 18, 2009 - Apr 12, 2009
In 1889, the National Association of Women Artists was founded to provide support and exhibition opportunities to women working in the visual arts. Today, N.A.W.A. is the oldest extant women’s art collective in the United States. In 1992, Rutgers University became the recipient of the N.A.W.A. collection, comprising work by past and current N.A.W.A. members. Now numbering over 300 works, the N.A.W.A. continues to grow. This exhibition comprises the additions to the N.A.W.A. collection from the past five years, and reflects the diversity of style and medium that one would expect from a contemporary artists group with a nationwide membership.
