Receiving its first ever performances outside the UK, Curry Tales is an outstanding production that combines western style narrative storytelling and the Khutu theatre of South India with actual live cooking. And what is cooked on stage the audience eats as larger than life performer Rani Moorthy encourages them to taste what she cooks and even lend a hand in preparing!

Audiences get to experience the world of chopping and tasting and learn that bubbling pots can hold surprising secrets and unexpected dreams. An intimate relationship between the audience and the performer is created, with the audience hearing and seeing, pounding, peeling, and stirring.

Feeding the audience with food for thought, curry is used to uncover character and personality, stories and secrets. A wonderful range of characters are presented, from a busy socialite to a revengeful lover.

For many South Asian women, whose role has traditionally been the provision of food, the quality of her curry is a source of identity and pride both in the home and within the community. It provides power for the skillful cook who can snare the taste buds of the household, manipulating the emotions of her family as she asks, "Who deserves my curry?"

Viewing this global food phenomenon from a whole gamut of human experiences, Curry Tales explores what divides and unites us as people. Taking a journey around the world, from Trinidadian duck curry to Malaysian curry Laksa, it reveals the role played by the British in the spread of curry via trade, the colonies and ultimately the migration and success of the South Asian diaspora.
